Determined the damage from a long sleep in the weekend

Decided to sleep in on weekends? The so-called social jetlag, that is awakening in different time, increases the risk of heart disease, found physicians from the University of Arizona in Tucson.

The scientists were able to assess the risk in percent — each additional hour of sleep increases your chances of heart disease by 11%. A new study based on data from the previous one, when the experts were called detrimental to heart different types of sleep on weekends and during working days.

The results obtained from the Arizona experts have also confirmed that changing the sleep mode on weekdays and weekends has a negative impact on mood and vitality.

To find out, the doctors interviewed 984 volunteers in age from 22 to 60 years who filled a special “sleep questionnaire” that had questions about what time the Respondent usually goes to sleep, what wakes and what is the average hours devoted to sleep.

The researchers then calculated a “social jetlag” for each volunteer, after which he conducted a medical examination of each participant of the study, given the complaints of drowsiness, fatigue, insomnia, and the absence or presence of cardiovascular disease.

It turned out that the results almost agreed with the conclusions of 2015 research conducted at the University of Pittsburgh, where the focus was a group of volunteers from 30 to 54 years.

Then it turned out that the people with the biggest shift in sleep between working days and weekends are more likely to experience health problems. They also had a low level of “good cholesterol” which prevents blood vessel damage.

Unfortunately, the final evidence that “social jetlag” is a stressful and, thus, causes diabetes and heart disease, could not be obtained. However, doctors are not going to stop and continue further study of sleep problems, reports The Daily Mail.

Yet experts agree that the regularity of sleep, in addition to the length, plays a significant role in our health. Therefore, it is important to observe sleep — it will be a simple preventative treatment for heart disease and will help prevent many other diseases in the future.
