The monument to Pushkin was opened in Copenhagen on the birthday of the poet

OSLO, 6 June. /Offset. TASS Yuri Mikhailenko/. The monument to Alexander Pushkin was opened in Copenhagen on the occasion of the 218th anniversary of the birth of the poet. A bronze bust was installed at the Royal library in the heart of the Danish capital.

As told TASS the head of Rossotrudnichestvo representative office in Denmark Artur Margaryan participated in the solemn ceremony was attended by the Russian Ambassador in Denmark Mikhail Vanin and Director of the University Department of the Royal library Hans Christian Mikkelsen.

“There is a long history of relations between the famous Danish storyteller and writer Hans Christian Andersen and our great poet Alexander Pushkin, — said Margaryan. They were contemporaries, but was not personally known, nevertheless, Andersen at its request was sent a workbook Pushkin, which was recorded two of his poems. The cover of this notebook in 1939, was discovered in the archives of Andersen, which were kept in the Royal library. That’s why we decided to erect a monument here”.

As reported by Rossotrudnichestvo, the number of monuments to Pushkin is growing only in recent years, the busts of the poet appeared in Egypt, India, Nepal and Switzerland.
