Syrian rebels reported shooting down of 50 km from Damascus military aircraft

Syrian rebels 50 km from Damascus shot down a Syrian military plane. This was reported by Reuters, the representative of the group “lions of the Eastern army,” which supports the international coalition.

“We have shot down a Syrian jet in the area of tel Dakwa outside Damascus. We are looking for a pilot”, — said the Agency interlocutor.

According to Reuters, rebel media reported on their websites pictures of the remains of the pilot and the plane, which reportedly took down the Syrian rebels. The representative of another rebel group said that the plane was shot down by heavy antiaircraft weapons that were delivered from the USA.

According to the Turkish TV channel TRT World, the plane was Russian-made. Lebanese Agency, Al Masdar News says that the rebels shot down a MiG-21.

The Syrian military has not commented on the reports about the downed plane. Representatives of the Center for monitoring the observance of human rights in Syria, based in London, confirmed the collapse of the Syrian aircraft as a result of the actions of the rebels, but could not say the pilot is alive or dead.
