Named the most popular among Russian classics
Citizens of Russia and Russian-speaking residents abroad from the works of classical writers prefer the works of Alexander Pushkin, Leo Tolstoy and Mikhail Lermontov.
This is evidenced by the results of a survey of the all-Russia centre of studying of public opinion (VTSIOM), published on the organization’s website on Monday, June 5.
The most popular author was Pushkin called it about 40 percent of the respondents (42 percent of respondents in Russia and 38% Russian-speaking foreigners). In second place — Tolstoy (27 and 35 percent, respectively). The third line of the rating took Lermontov (20 and 18 percent).
The list also includes Fyodor Dostoevsky, Sergey Esenin and Anton Chekhov.
Employees VTSIOM asked respondents an open-ended question, not involving pre-defined answers. It is noted that the inhabitants of the countries more difficult to remember the names of the classics among foreigners with the answer difficult, 31 percent of respondents, and among Russians, 16 per cent of respondents.
