Trump has postponed the transfer of the U.S. Embassy to Jerusalem

The US President Donald trump has signed a decree to postpone moving the us Embassy in Israel from tel Aviv to Jerusalem. This was announced by the White house, stressing that trump does not refuse this idea, but only wants to increase the chances of a peaceful settlement of the conflict in the middle East.

In a statement the White house released on 1 Jun, said that “President trump made this decision in order to improve the chances of successful negotiations between Israel and the Palestinians.”

“We should not regard this step as a waiver of long-standing and strong support of the President of the United States, Israel and the Union of the United States with Israel,” — said the press service of the White house.

During his election campaign trump promised almost on the first day as President to sign a decree on the transfer of the U.S. Embassy in Jerusalem — the city which is considered their capital, and Israelis and Palestinians.

It was one of his campaign trumps, writes Reuters. And the Palestinians were unhappy with this campaign promise trump.

During his first visit to the middle East trump has promised to help to achieve peace in the region. It expressed the hope and Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. It is believed that the transfer of the Embassy could exacerbate the conflict.

In 1967 during the six day war Israel, first of which controlled only the Western part of the city, annexed the Eastern part, which belonged to the Palestinians.

Israel considers Jerusalem its capital, and urges all countries to move the Embassy from tel Aviv.

In 1995, the U.S. Congress approved the law on the transfer of the American Embassy in Israel to Jerusalem to support the Israeli position in the conflict.

The law gives the President the opportunity to delay the decision to move the U.S. Embassy to Jerusalem every six months, as did predecessors trump.

The white house emphasizes that this time the US President will not retreat from its promises.

“The question is not whether there will be this transfer at all, but when it happens,” — said in a statement the White house. There are urged not to consider the decision trump the refusal of the President of the United States from support of Israel.
