MOSCOW, may 26 — RIA Novosti. The leading position of Russia in the export of wheat in the world is primarily a question of prestige, however, remains the main yield of grain producers, said in an interview with RIA Novosti first Deputy Minister of agriculture of Russia Dzhambulat Hatuov.

“It’s a matter of status and prestige in the world markets, but the important thing is to maintain profitability of agricultural producers, as it allows to provide the expanded grain production,” said house.

According to him, currently the Ministry of agriculture predicts that exports of Russian grain in 2016-2017 agricultural year (from 1 July 2016 to 30 June 2017) will be 34-35 million tons, including 27 million tons of wheat. Last season, the Russian export volume of wheat of slightly over 25 million tons has become a world leader, and according to the Ministry in may this record has already been broken.

However, since the beginning of the calendar year there was a small decline of deliveries abroad, which gave grounds to the Foreign agricultural service (Foreign Agricultural Service, FAS) of the USDA predicting that Russia will lose world leadership in this sector of exports.

In 2016, Russia received a record harvest of grain for all post-Soviet time — of 120.7 million tons in net weight, including 73.3 million tons of wheat.
