The “war” that changed the world: the legendary Saga of George Lucas celebrates 40 years

The legendary Saga of George Lucas “Star wars” turns 40.

Premiere of the first part took place on 25 may 1977. Then nobody believed in the success of the campaign of Lucas, but then it was this “space Opera” was saved from bankruptcy by 20th Century Fox and Disney, becoming one of the most expensive films in movie history.

The release of the first movie was preceded by the publication of the novel: in 1976 the American writer Alan Dean foster has published a book titled “Episode 4. A new Hope”, despite the fact that on the cover it was stated only the authorship of George Lucas. Such was the condition of the company 20th Century Fox, which, fearing failure of the film at the box office, decided to test the interest of the public and to create hype around the story. A year later, George Lucas received a special Hugo award that is awarded by the Congress of the world community of science fiction. All this, of course, attracted a lot of attention to the film, and its incredible commercial success was the reason to continue the franchise’s history, which lasted for 40 years.

By the way, foster’s, though, and remained unknown to a wider audience, was due to the “Star wars” demanded by the script writer and wrote literary adaptations of famous movies, ranging from “Alien” and “Chronicles of Riddick”, ending with “star trek”.
