Ivan Karelin
The resignation of Ivan Kornilina from a post of the mayor of Nizhny Novgorod connected with the results of its verification of foreign assets. This was stated by the Plenipotentiary representative of Russian President in the Volga Federal district (VFD) Mikhail Babich, reports TASS on Thursday, may 25.
He stressed that Karelin became one of the officials who was fired after verification of compliance with anti-corruption legislation. In just two years they turned out to be 320.
Babich emphasized that the law enforcement agencies, financial intelligence and tax service checked including the presence of the foreign assets of the officials, requesting data from Interpol and other international organizations. “The work that was performed, given the result, — said the envoy. Care Kornilina as head of the city has become a natural”.
On may 23, Karylin appealed to the deputies of the Nizhny Novgorod city Duma with a request for early retirement. He explained that he was leaving the mayor to “give way to young”. However, he said that after the dismissal will remain the mandate of the Deputy of the city Duma. City Parliament the next day accepted his resignation.
At the end of last year it became known that the ex-wife Kornilina owns two apartments in Miami. The official then said that has no relation to this property.
60-year-old Ivan Karelin was elected mayor in October 2015. His candidacy was voted for by 28 of the 44 members of the city Parliament. The politician is the Deputy of the city Duma of Nizhny Novgorod since 1994.
