The speaker of Council of Federation Valentina Matvienko considers that the latest actions of the Ukrainian authorities are unpredictable, and aimed not in the interests of the people and country. She stated this in an exclusive interview with “Izvestia”.

According to Matvienko, to comment on what is happening in Ukraine is becoming increasingly difficult, “because gaining strength degradation of the political system of the country.” “Waking up in the morning, I don’t know what news may come from Ukraine. Because of the action of the authorities is unpredictable,” she said.

So, according to the Senator, blocking Russian social networks, search engines Yandex, Mail.ru termination of broadcasting of several Russian TV channels, radio stations, banning of books from Russia – all these actions of the Kiev authorities “certainly not in the interests of the people and the country”. “It’s not only an internal affair of Ukraine. All of the above restraining action is a gross violation of rights of Ukrainian citizens to freedom of speech and freedom of access to information”, — said the head of the upper chamber of the Russian Parliament.

Thus Valentina Matvienko has reminded that Ukraine remains a member of CIS, is a member of the Interparliamentary Assembly of the Commonwealth. “But all this is purely formal. I think the Kiev rulers are not yet ready to completely cut ties with the CIS. Apparently, there are some reasons,” she said.
