No concrete decision about the “import substitution” in Russian football following the meeting of the presidential Council on development of physical culture and sport was taken. “The President has agreed that there is a problem, and it was about the fact that you need the flexibility to discuss the issue. He explained that the head of state generally supported the idea of the Governor Veniamin Kondratiev, called on the President to support the full “import substitution in the Russian football”. At the same time was announced the need to further study the issue.
“Really, it was about how to grow their own athletes is costly both in time and money, and coaching resources, and are often easier to solve the problem by buying foreign players,” — said Peskov.
Honorary President of the Russian football Union (RFU) Vyacheslav Koloskov in comments to the National news service (NSN) has been proposed to reduce the limit of foreign players on the field to five. He noted that such players need to set an example for Russian players.
