Matvienko has proposed to ban minors to participate in protests

The Chairman of the Federation Council Valentina Matvienko considers reasonable the adoption of the legal amendments aimed at prohibiting involvement in illegal mass actions of minors. She declared it in interview to the newspaper “Izvestia” published on Tuesday, may 23.

“I am convinced that children — children, teenagers — should not participate in such promotions, especially if they are unauthorized. (…) Still, minors are not always able to make truly informed decisions. Therefore, it may be that legislation should establish the prohibition of involving children in this kind of mass actions”, — she said.

Matviyenko noted that “modern technology allows very fast to organize people.” In her opinion, the involvement of minors Russians “through the Internet, social networks in an illegal mass event” — “invalid.”

26 March on Tverskaya street in Moscow was held unauthorized mass rally against corruption, which, according to official estimates, adopted 8-10 thousand people. The event was coordinated with the city authorities: the organizers were offered alternative sites for a demonstration, but these options did not suit them. As a result, the rally was delayed more than a thousand people, among whom were minors.
