The Committee of the state Duma approved the candidacy of the new Ambassador of Russia in Turkey

The state Duma Committee on international Affairs has supported the appointment of the head of the Department of the Situational crisis center (DSCC) of the MFA of Russia Alexei Erchov for the post of Ambassador of Russia in Turkey. On Thursday, may 18, reports TASS citing a source familiar with the private session of the Committee.

Erchov previously served as the Consul General of Russia in Istanbul.

Candidate Erchova has yet to be endorsed at the plenary meeting of the state Duma.

Currently, the duties of the Ambassador of Russia in Turkey takes the Counsellor Sergey Panov.

62-year-old Russian Ambassador to Turkey Andrey Karlov was killed in Ankara on December 19. He was shot in the back during a speech at the opening of the photo exhibition “Russia through the eyes of the Turks” in the Gallery of modern art. The assailant is 22-year-old policeman mevlüt MERT Altıntaş — soon after the attack were eliminated by the security forces. Charles was posthumously awarded the title hero of Russia.
