Ministry of defense published a video on the Day of the Baltic fleet

18 may, 1703 rowing flotilla with the soldiers of the Preobrazhensky and Semenovsky regiments won the first victory, capturing two Swedish warships.

The Russian defense Ministry released a video for the Day of the Baltic fleet.

This is one of the oldest fleets of Russia, which was established by Peter I during the Northern war of 1700-1721. Birthday of the Baltic fleet is considered to be may 18 (may 7, old style) 1703. On this day, rowing flotilla with the soldiers of the Preobrazhensky and Semenovsky regiments under the command of the king won the first battle victory, capturing at the mouth of the Neva river two Swedish warships.

The historical significance of this victory for Russia was highlighted by the awarding of all the participants in the battle specially made medals with the inscription “Unprecedented happens.”

The Baltic fleet is a balanced multiservice grouping of forces and troops, having in its composition of surface and submarine forces, aviation and air defence troops, coastal armies, and also part of logistics.
