In Italy abolished alimony for the wealthy

Moscow. May 11. INTERFAX.RU — the Italian court of cassation made a decision to change the rules concerning the calculation and payment of alimony after divorce, wrote on Thursday the Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera.

According to the verdict of the court of cassation, divorced spouses who have sufficient financial means or able to work, will not automatically receive child support.

So now the court in divorce proceedings will be based on the capacity of the former spouses to support themselves independently, not based on their standard of living during the marriage.

From the date of issuance of this verdict, the marriage will not be considered as a method “the arrangement of personal life”. Thus, according to a decision of the court, marriage is “an act of free will and personal responsibility.”

It is expected that the court’s decision will not only bring changes in the interpretation of family law Italy, but also reduce the number of divorces, the results of which were paid large sums of alimony.
