According to stéphane Dujarric, the Bureau will impose the following main objectives: first, to ensure the implementation of anti-terrorism activities of the UN mandate in accordance with the authority vested in the Secretary General; secondly, to enhance coordination of the activities of the 38 units in the task group on implementation of counter-terrorism activities of the United Nations; thirdly, assistance to the States members of the United Nations in anti-terrorist activities; and finally, fourth, to strengthen the resource base of fight against terrorism and to intensify efforts to explain its meaning and significance.
Mr. Dujarric said that the head of the Bureau for the fight against terrorism will be equated in status to the Deputy UN Secretary-General (Under-Secretary-General). Comment on candidates for this post interlocutor “” has refused.
