Putin visited his former leader working in Dresden

The President of Russia Vladimir Putin has visited the former representative of the KGB of the USSR Ministry of state security of the GDR Lazarus Matveeva. It is reported by RIA Novosti.

The head of state congratulated Matveeva, under whom he worked during the second half of 1980-ies in Dresden, with 90-year anniversary.

The President came home to Matveyev in Zhulebino along with colleagues in East Germany — Nikolay Tokarev, the head of the company “Transneft”, and Sergei Chemezov, who is now the head of Rostec.

Putin congratulated the former resident with the anniversary and with the upcoming Victory Day, proposing to raise a toast to the health of the celebrant. He gave Matveyev presidential watch, together with a copy of the newspaper “Pravda”, released in 1927, the birthday of the celebrant.

As reported in the curriculum vitae Putin on the Kremlin website, in 1985-1990, he served in a territorial reconnaissance point in Dresden. On superannuation, he was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel and to the position of senior assistant head of Department. In 1989, Putin was awarded a bronze medal “For outstanding merits before the National people’s army of the GDR.”
