Vitaly Milonov

State Duma Deputy Vitaly Milonov plans to prepare draft amendments to the criminal code that criminalize unjustified criticism and public insults against the leadership of religious movements to extremism and encroachment on the constitutional system of government. It is reported RIA Novosti on Friday, 5 may.

“Insulting the head of the religious current — be it Christianity, Islam, Judaism, or Buddhism for millions of people is a serious offense and crime. In some cases, this malicious action may even provoke civil disobedience or unrest,” — said Milonov in an interview with the Agency.

The MP stressed that although Russia is a secular state, most residents are believers. “Public insult or slander of a priest, Rabbi, Lama or Mullah is an insult to the whole religion, not the benefit of secular society,” — said the MP.

According to him, the initiative on amendments to the criminal code submitted for examination to the Ministry of justice and religious Affairs.

At the end of 2015 Milon, being the Deputy of legislative Assembly of St. Petersburg proposed to enshrine in the Constitution the state ideology, according to which Russia as a state based on the principles of traditional religions.
