Moscow. May 4. INTERFAX.RU the Violence and killings that took place in Russia’s history, cannot be justified, under whatever political slogans they may happen, said Russian President Vladimir Putin.

He spoke at the opening ceremony in the Kremlin memorial cross on the site of the death in 1905 of the Moscow Governor-General Grand Duke Sergey Alexandrovich.

The President stressed that “the death of the Grand Duke was shocked when society, it was seen as a tragedy, the representatives of all classes.”

Cross in memory of Grand Duke Sergei Alexandrovich, was delivered by Nikolskaya tower in 1908 on public donations. In 1918, a monument created by the sketch of Victor Vasnetsov, was demolished during the work day with the personal participation of Vladimir Lenin and Yakov Sverdlov. May 1 from the date of the demolition of the cross turned 99 years old.

The Foundation stone at the base of the cross was laid and consecrated in the Kremlin on 1 November 2016.

Commission to consider the question of the reconstruction of the historical place of the cross in memory of the tragic death of Grand Duke Sergei Alexandrovich was given to Putin in August 2016 after inspection of the Park, broken on the site of the dismantled 14 of the building of the Kremlin.

Initially, the Grand Duke was buried in the Kremlin Chudov monastery, demolished after the 1917 revolution, a crypt with the remains of the Prince were discovered only in 1986 during restoration works in the Kremlin. In 1995, they were transferred to the Novospassky monastery, where he established the first copy of the cross.
