The President of Russia Vladimir Putin participated in the opening ceremony of the cross in memory of the great Prince Sergei Alexandrovich. The event was held in the Kremlin, reports TASS.
In August last year, Putin proposed to consider reconstruction of the cross at the historic site, not far from the Nikolskaya tower of the Kremlin, between the buildings of the Senate and the Arsenal.
The Prince died at this place in February of 1905 by a bomb thrown by revolutionary Ivan kaliayev In 1908 was consecrated established there in memory of Sergei Alexandrovich, the monument represents a bronze cross with enamel accents and the picture of the crucified Christ. In may 1918 it was demolished, with the direct participation of Vladimir Lenin.
Sergei Alexandrovich, the fifth son of Alexander II, from February 1891 to January, 1905, was the Moscow Governor-General.
