The relics of St. Nicholas will arrive in Russia for the first time in 930 years

In Moscow, from the papal Basilica in Bari will bring a particle of the relics of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker. This happens for the first time in 930 years, said the Chairman of the Department for external Church relations Metropolitan Hilarion (Alfeyev).

The relics will be in Russia from 21 may to 28 July 2017, said Metropolitan Hilarion in a live TV channel “Russia 24”.

“Every year hundreds of believers of the Moscow Patriarchate arrive in Bari to venerate the honourable relics of the great Saint of God, — said Metropolitan Hilarion. — However, the majority of Orthodox Russia pilgrimage are far too difficult. Pope Francis and the Patriarch of Moscow and all Russia Kirill I hope that prayer have wonder-working relics of the Saint will serve to strengthen faith in the hearts of the people.”

The agreement on the introduction of part of the relics of Saint Nicholas from Italy to Russia was reached at a meeting with Pope Francis on 13 February 2016 in Havana.
