The state Duma has again proposed to ban the sale of alcohol to 21 years. This time under the ban can get beverages of a strength of more than 18%
Members of the Legislative Assembly of the Leningrad region proposed to ban sale of alcohol strength of more than 18% of persons under the age of 21. The bill they introduced in the state Duma.
Now Russia has a law that prohibits selling alcohol to 18 years. The seller may request the identity document to confirm the age of the customer.
“However, as shown by sociological and psychological study, 18-year-old young people are not able to make an informed decision in the matter of alcohol consumption, many of them use alcohol products under the influence of their peers, without thinking about the negative consequences”, — stated in the explanatory note to the document.
The authors explain that this measure will help to reduce the consumption of alcohol in Russia. They refer to data from the world health organization in 2014, according to which Russia takes the 4th place in terms of alcohol consumption. The deputies write that often times the first try alcohol at the age of 10-20 years.

This is not the first time Russia has offered to restrict the sale of alcoholic beverages is 21. A similar measure proposed in 2015, Senator Anton Belyakov.
