Salvador, the first in the world banned the production of metals

El Salvador has become the first state to ban metals mining in their territory. Now the law prohibits “prospecting, mining or processing of metallic minerals in El Salvador”.

The innovation reported on the portal Phys.Org.

“The adoption of this law was necessary in light of industry development that brings society benefits, but causes serious pollution of the environment and water resources”, — said the President of the Ecological unit of El Salvador.

Many countries in Latin America have an income through the export of minerals, but local communities complain about the environmental risks caused by toxic metals used in the process. Also, the new law is intended to protect rural residents from threats to their land projects for the extraction of metals.

MiningWatch, a canadian organization that monitors the mining industry, hopes that the action in El Salvador, the decision will serve as an example for other countries.
