Died the Director of “Silence of the lambs” Jonathan Demme

In the US, on 74-m to year of life has died film Director Jonathan Demme, known primarily as the Director of the film “silence of the lambs”, released in 1991.

On the death of Demme told Variety magazine. Later, the agent of the Director confirmed his death. According to him, Demme died from complications of esophageal cancer at his apartment in Manhattan.

The funeral will be held Demme family, said his agent.

The Demme film “silence of the lambs” remains his most famous work. He received the award “Oscar” in five most prestigious nominations — “Best film”, “Best Director”, best work of the actor and actress in leading roles and “Best adapted screenplay”.

Among his other famous works Demme film “Philadelphia”. He was one of the first paintings dedicated to the problem of AIDS in Hollywood. Also directed the films “Married to the mob”, “wild thing”, “the Manchurian candidate”.

In addition, Demme worked as a Director at the famous American TV show — “the Oprah Winfrey Show” and Saturday Night Live (in translation into Russian — “Saturday night live”), which marked the beginning of a whole genre of television programs.

Demme also shot music videos for the band New Order and Bruce Springsteen.

The video for the song Bruce Springsteen “Streets Of Philadelphia” also is directing the work of Jonathan Demme. The song itself was the title in yet another Demme film “Philadelphia,” and received the “Oscar” for “Best original song”.
