The Federation Council has told about the expectations from Putin’s meeting with Japanese Prime Minister

Vladimir Putin and Shinzo Abe

Sensational outcome from the talks of Russian President Vladimir Putin and Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe is expected. This opinion was expressed by Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council Committee on international Affairs Andrei Klimov told “Tape.ru” on Tuesday, April 25.

“The meeting has been planned (…). In the negotiations, in particular, the question arises about the state of Affairs around the Korean Peninsula, the tension level is very high. Russia and Japan — countries that are in a conflict zone, so we need to coordinate our positions,” — said the Senator.

Klimov also said that the decision on joint economic activities on Southern Kuriles takes time. “It is very hard to work with the government in terms of strategic partnerships and in terms of the peace agreement, if the state, let and formally, but it supports the anti-Russian sanctions,” — said the MP.

Earlier on Tuesday it became known that Putin April 27 will discuss with Abe the state and prospects of development of bilateral cooperation in politics, economy and humanitarian sphere. 17 April it was reported that during a visit to Russia Japanese Prime Minister intends to raise the question about the situation on the Korean Peninsula.

March 20, Moscow gave the Tokyo proposals for specific joint venture projects in the Southern Kuriles. The Japanese Prime Minister said that it could be “a big plus on the way to the conclusion of a peace Treaty” between the countries.

Following the end of world war II between Moscow and Tokyo have not signed a peace Treaty. The main obstacle to the signing of the document is the unresolved dispute over the southern Kuril Islands — Iturup, Kunashir, Shikotan and the Habomai group.
