Russia is ready to provide Syria’s air defense system in the priority order, if appropriate arrangements are made. The Chairman of the Federation Council Committee on defense and security Viktor Ozerov told RIA Novosti on Saturday, April 22.
“It will not require additional burden on the defense industry,” — said Ozerov.
He added that in such supplies “there is nothing extraordinary, considering that Syria is at war with terrorists and that Russia is supporting them in the implementation of the objectives of the fight against terrorism”. “It would not violate international law and UN security Council, air defense systems are not offensive, but defensive weapons,” — said the Senator.
Earlier Syria’s President Bashar al-Assad reported that Damascus is negotiating with Moscow on new supplies of weapons, including air defense systems.
On 7 April, after US attack on a government air base shirt in Syria, the official representative of the Ministry of defense of Russia Igor Konashenkov said that in the near future to strengthen the defense system of the Syrian armed forces to cover the infrastructure.
