St. PETERSBURG, April 22 — RIA Novosti. The Director of the Museum “St. Isaac’s Cathedral” Nikolai Burov told RIA Novosti about his resignation on 1 June.

“The first of June I will stop working. First, I’m on 65-m to year of life, second, June 5, at the end of my contract. But I prefer to leave willingly: not to be dismissed and to resign,” — said Burov.

He added that “the situation around the Museum still does not move, but the city Committee for culture claim that they will show the utmost attention to the arrangement of people in any situation.” “I really hope such a decision. How the situation will develop is difficult to say, it remains suspended,” — said Burov.

The situation around St. Isaac’s Cathedral caused a public outcry when the authorities of St. Petersburg decided to transfer the Cathedral for 49 years, the Russian Orthodox Church in the free use with preserving the Museum and educational functions. Remains and legal status of the object — its owner is the city. The public is concerned about the fate of Isaac, despite the statement of representatives of the Russian Orthodox Church, the Museum functions will be expanded, and the entrance to the Cathedral will be free.

Later, the municipal electoral Committee of St. Petersburg approved the registration of the initiative group for holding a referendum on the fate of St. Isaac’s Cathedral. This question city, the Parliament may consider on April 26 at the plenary session.
