Russia declared full compliance with the criteria of Iran membership in SCO

Iran is now fully meets the criteria for membership in the Shanghai cooperation organization (SCO). On Friday, April 21, Minister of foreign Affairs of Russia Sergey Lavrov, reports RIA Novosti.

According to the head of the foreign Ministry, he hopes that in June in Astana, the heads of the SCO member States “to consider the possibility of connecting Iran as a full member of the organization.

Following the meeting of the Council of Ministers of foreign Affairs of the SCO, Lavrov said that all the participants of the meeting confirmed the need for a settlement in Syria in accordance with the requirements of resolution 2254 of the UN security Council. We are talking about the resolution of the Syrian crisis through dialogue with the participation of all the Syrians themselves who should determine the fate of their country.

Iran has applied to join the Shanghai cooperation organization in 2008.

International organization of the SCO was founded in 2001 by leaders of China, Russia, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan. In July of 2015 has been started the procedure of admission of India and Pakistan, which should be completed by the SCO summit in Astana.

The main objectives of the organization hailed the strengthening of stability and security, fight against terrorism, separatism, drug trafficking, development of economic cooperation, energy partnership, scientific and cultural cooperation.
