The Russians offered to give the day off after Easter

In the state Duma proposed to make the day the Monday following Easter. The corresponding bill submitted to the lower house of Parliament on Tuesday, April 18.

It was sponsored by deputies from the LDPR faction, Deputy Chairman of the state Duma Igor Lebedev and the Chairman of the Committee on labor, social policy and veterans ‘ Affairs Yaroslav Nilov.

The document was developed “for the purpose of legislative consolidation of the establishment of a new public holiday Easter Monday”, reads the explanatory note. According to deputies, it will allow to create conditions “to meet the religious feelings and needs of the faithful citizens” and free up time “for useful deeds”.

Furthermore, parliamentarians noted that the authorities of subjects of Federation have the right to establish additional holidays — in particular, in some Muslim regions residents rest during the Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha. The liberal Democrats stressed that Easter is celebrated up to 85 percent of Russians, write dni.ru.

March 1, first Deputy head of the Duma faction “United Russia” in legislative activities, Andrei Isayev, commenting on the occasional initiative of deputies about the transfer of existing festivals and the establishment of the new, said that the lower house of Parliament plans to preserve the existing calendar of Russian holidays.

Easter, or Resurrection, is the main Christian holiday. On this day believers remember the resurrection from the dead of Jesus Christ on the third day after his crucifixion on the cross for the sins of all people. In some European countries it is a nonworking day.
