The deputies proposed to deprive terrorists of previously obtained Russian citizenship

A number of deputies made a proposal to cancel the decision of obtaining Russian citizenship in respect of persons convicted of terrorism. On Tuesday, April 18, reports “Interfax”.

According to him, the relevant bill in the state Duma introduced the leaders of the four parliamentary factions: Vladimir Vasilyev (United Russia), Vladimir Zhirinovsky (LDPR), Gennady Zyuganov (Communist party) and Sergei Mironov (Fair Russia”).

The authors of the initiative proposed to amend the article 22 of the law “On citizenship of the Russian Federation” according to which “the basis for cancellation of the decision on acquisition of citizenship of the Russian Federation will be the conviction of a person to the punishment of the legally effective court sentence for committing crimes of a terrorist nature”.

The head of the Duma Committee on state construction and legislation, Pavel Krasheninnikov, told TASS that the draft law could be considered in the first reading in the lower house of the Parliament after may 15. “The theme is clear, has long been discussed. Will move”, — he stressed.

In turn, the head of the Federation Council Committee on defense and security Victor Ozerov has assured that the upper chamber is ready to consider and support document. “I think this bill will find support not only in Parliament but also in society. The Federation Council will consider promptly and convinced to support the bill,” — said Ozerov.

On 12 April the President of Russia Vladimir Putin in interview to TV channel “Mir 24” has made the abolition of decisions on the grant of citizenship to persons involved in terrorism. Recalling that, in accordance with the Constitution of Russia, citizenship of anyone to deny it is impossible, he said, “But we can cancel the relevant decisions, which served as the basis for obtaining Russian citizenship”.
