In Latvia start of NATO exercises

TALLINN, April 17 — RIA Novosti, Nikolai Adashkevich. NATO exercise Summer Shield in Latvia will start April 17 and will last until April 30: in them will take part more than 1.2 thousand military personnel, including 200 military of Estonia, announced the General staff of the Estonian defense Forces.

“More than 200 Estonian soldiers will take part in NATO exercise Summer Shield, which will be held in the Latvian Adazi landfill from 17 to 30 April”, — stated in the message.

International military exercise Summer Shield will be held in ādaži the polygon and the adjacent site, in them will take part more than 1.2 thousand servicemen from Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, USA, Canada, UK, Luxembourg, Bulgaria, Romania, Slovakia, Germany and Sweden.

The exercises will be practiced artillery support, air defense and reconnaissance, combating weapons of mass destruction, anti-tank defense and the operations of military engineers.

Summer Shield exercises held in Latvia since 2004. 2014 are included in the list of NATO exercises and open to participation by all member countries of the Alliance. In 2016 the exercise was attended by more than 1.3 thousand servicemen.
