Putin congratulated Orthodox Christians with Easter

MOSCOW, 16 APR — RIA Novosti. The President of Russia Vladimir Putin congratulated Orthodox Christians and all Russians on Easter, noting that Easter celebrations help to promote the eternal spiritual values and ideals, the press service of the Kremlin.

He also noted the “truly selfless” work of the Russian Orthodox Church, representatives of other Christian denominations, aimed at solving important social problems, strengthening the institution of family, parenting, harmonization of inter-religious and inter-ethnic relations. In addition, Putin stressed their role in maintaining the rich historical and cultural heritage of the country.

Orthodox believers celebrate Sunday the main Christian holiday — Easter or Resurrection of Christ. It is a moveable holiday, established in Apostolic times, its date each year is calculated separately according to the lunar-solar calendar.

On this day remember the resurrection from the dead of Jesus Christ on the third day after his crucifixion on the cross for the sins of all mankind. In all Orthodox churches on Easter night of festive worship.
