The court arrested the former head of the Mari El Republic
Basmanny court decided to detain the former head of the Mari El Republic Leonid Markelov. About it “lente.ru” has informed a press-the court Secretary Juno Tsarev.
Markelov will be in prison until at least June 12. He asked to be transferred under home arrest or release on bail in the amount of 3-5 million rubles, but the court refused to do this.
Before April 14, Markelov was officially charged with receiving a bribe. According to the investigation, Markelov received through a Trustee — Natalia Kozhanov — from the founder of the factory “Akashevskaya” Nicholas Krivosha more than 235 million rubles as a bribe for the protection of and assistance in the disbursement of state support to development of agricultural complex.
Kozhanov in accordance with the same decision of the Basmanny court were also remanded in custody until June 12.
Markelov was arrested on April 13. April 6, he resigned from the post of the head region.
