Leonid Markelov
“United Russia” has suspended the party membership of the former head of Mari El Leonid Markelov, who was detained on suspicion in receiving a bribe. The decision adopted by the Presidium of political Council of regional branch of United Russia on Friday, 14 April, reported on its website.
“Note that this is not the deprivation of membership, but only its suspension in time of investigative actions”, — underlined in the message.
About excitation of criminal case in relation to Markelov became known yesterday, April 13. According to the Investigative Committee of Russia, the former head of the Republic received through an agent a bribe in the amount of 235 million roubles from the founder of the factory “Akashevskaya” Nicholas Crevase. According to investigators, the illegal remuneration Markelov was to have the enterprise the patronage and assistance in the disbursement of state support.
On 6 April the President of Russia Vladimir Putin has accepted the resignation of Markelov on their own. The acting head of Mari El was appointed the former Deputy of the Plenipotentiary of the President in the Volga Federal district Alexander Evstifeev.
Two days earlier, was dismissed in connection with loss of trust, the head of Udmurtia Alexander Soloviev, in respect of which as a criminal case on the fact of bribery. On the same day the regional office of the EP has suspended its membership in the party.
