Minister of education and science Olga Vasilieva said about the need to reduce the number of graduate students, reports TASS.

“Graduate school should be a priority, she should really educate researchers. And it should not be a flow of 25 people, there should be two or three graduate students at the Department,” she said, stressing that after training, the graduate should be able to defend themselves in their University.

According to the Minister, have the right to distribute budgetary places on specialities in graduate school have rectors.

Former President Vladimir Fortov in the comments of the National news service (NSN) did not support the idea of the Minister. “People should go and work in science — the more the better. The restriction usually arise naturally and not as a result of any decisions of this type,” said FORTS.

In September 2016, “Kommersant” reported that the Ministry of education and science is preparing a reform of postgraduate study, since only one third of graduate students comes to the defense of the dissertation. In addition, the Agency had proposed to abolish the requirement of compulsory teaching practice for graduate students.

According to “Russian newspaper”, for the 2017-2018 academic year the Ministry of education has allocated more than 15 thousand funded places for postgraduate students.
