The US attack on base in Syria will lead to a sharp increase in terrorist activity, violence in the region, as well as to the threats against Christians, says a member of the friendship group with the Parliament of Syria, the head of the Duma Committee on civil society development issues, public and religious organisations Sergey Gavrilov.

USA at night on Friday made a rocket attack on a government base in Syria with cruise missiles based on ships of the U.S. Navy. According to the Pentagon, there were 59 missiles. It was noted that the purpose of the missile strike, the US was an airfield in Shayrat, Syria.

“In my opinion, this will lead to a sharp increase in terrorist activity in the region, because different opposition from moderates to openly terrorist will feel that they have a free hand. And many of the agreements that we have come to bring peace, will be on the verge of collapse,” — said RIA Novosti Gavrilov.

He noted that such actions can not only lead to outbreaks of violence in the territories that became the mode of reconciliation, but also to the risk of violence against minorities in Syria, especially Christians.

“I admit that, since the US administration thereby legitimize his version of the responsibility of the Syrian government (the chemical attack), then the terrorists will have a free hand, including chemical attacks, including the Christian population. It is known that the militants actively used in Aleppo and in several local conflicts on the territory of Syria’s own homegrown terrorist weapons,” he said.

According to the parliamentarian, the missile attack on the United States base in Syria significantly undermine the incipient interaction between the political circles of Russia and of Europe on peaceful settlement of the conflict. “This confirms the distrust of self, a deliberate policy of the U.S. administration… Because the policy (USA) is changed three times already in regard to the Syrian issue,” — he stressed.
