In Hong Kong auction sold the portrait of Mao Zedong for $12.7 million

BEIJING, APR 3 — RIA Novosti, Ivan Bulatov. A portrait of the former President of China Mao TSE-Tung brush of Andy Warhol sold at Sotheby’s auction in Hong Kong for 98.5 million Hong Kong dollars (of 12.69 million U.S. dollars), according to the website of the auction house.

Initially, the organizers of the auction was expected to fetch the portrait from 11.6 to 15.5 million U.S. dollars.

Portrait was written in 1973. The canvas has dimensions of 127 106,6 cm. It is made with acrylic paint and with the use of silkscreen on canvas.
