The majority of citizens consider the Republic the most appropriate form of government, according to a survey by VTsIOM.

The vast majority of citizens are not ready to restore the monarchy in Russia. Strongly against the autocracy as the form of government voted 68% of Russians, according to a survey “polls-Sputnik” (at the disposal of “Izvestia”). Know someone who could become a new Russian monarch, 6% of the population. Another 22% of respondents are “not opposed to monarchy”, but do not see a suitable candidate.

According to sociologists, in 2006 against monarchical form of government was expressed by 66% of citizens of Russia, and in 2013-m — 67%. In 2017 a percentage of the opponents of autocracy increased again and amounted to 68%, according to the survey, “the Monarchy for Russia: one hundred years later”.

“Not in principle against the” transfer of power by inheritance, 22% of respondents, however, they do not see Russia as a person suitable for the role of monarch. In addition, 6% of Russians, a man in our state still is.

Thus sociologists point out that “tolerable” to the monarchy is mostly young people: among respondents 18 to 34 years of 68%. Not against the monarchy and the residents of Moscow and St. Petersburg (37%) and active Internet users (33%) and supporters of non-parliamentary parties — the potential of monarchists among them 34%.

To the question “Why are you for the restoration of the monarchy?” difficult to answer 50% of citizens, acting in its support. Director of research VTsIOM Stepan Lvov said that many Russians associate the monarchy with the return to the past, archaic and tragic pages of history.

— Soviet generation resist that much stronger youth for which a monarchical form of government is valid, — told “Izvestia” the sociologist. In the minds of young people the monarchy is not opposed to freedom and democracy, it attracts them with its rationality and efficiency. It is possible that “vaccination anti-monarchist” of the Soviet period should expire within a generation.

The head of Fund “the Petersburg policy” Michael Vinogradov considers that in Soviet times the concept of the monarchy is perceived as a sign of archaic, something from the history of feudalism.

— For citizens significant the election authority, rejection of it means in their eyes the elimination of the strings that creates the responsibility of government to the voters, the expert said.

The President of the national strategy Institute Mikhail Remizov believes that the refusal of citizens to support the monarchical form of government is associated with the perception that such a power can only be absolute, dynastic. For the monarchy are mostly educated people, which distinguish its species, said the analyst.

— People no longer believe in dynastic legitimacy. The idea that power is given from birth within the same family, has exhausted itself. It is the lot of some political romantics. When people today are asked about whether they support the monarchy, that of its dynastic form they begin to talk. So the idea and does not find public support, — said Mikhail Remizov.

The survey was conducted on March 16-18, 2017 by telephone interviews a random sample of landline and mobile numbers. Participation in the study hired 1.8 thousand Russians.
