MOSCOW, 22 Mar — RIA Novosti. An earthquake of magnitude 5.5 occurred on Wednesday in the Indonesian island of Bali, said the US Geological survey (USGS).
Tremors were recorded at 07.10 local time (02.10 GMT) in the southern part of Bali, at 10.2 kilometres North-East from Denpasar city. The earthquake was located at a depth of 118.4 km.
Information on victims and destructions did not arrive yet.
Indonesia is the most seismically active area of the planet and is part of the so-called Pacific ring of fire (powerful tectonic fault). In this area of the world are the most active tectonic plates, one of which moves with a speed of seven centimeters a year. Annually seismologists register here 6-7 thousand earthquakes of magnitude above 4.0.
