The Syrian army, backed by Russian Air and space forces (VKS RF) freed Palmyra from terrorists. This statement was made by the Minister of defence of Russia Sergey Shoigu. It is reported TASS with reference to the press-Secretary of Russian President Dmitry Peskov.
In may 2015, militants of the banned terrorist organization “Islamic state” (ISIS) occupied Palmyra. The city was liberated in March 2016 the Syrian army, backed by Russian aviation.
