The General staff said details of the operation for the liberation of Palmyra
MOSCOW, 3 Mar — RIA Novosti. Operation near Palmyra was planned and conducted under the leadership of the Russian military advisers, said at a briefing head of the Main operations Directorate of the General staff of armed forces Colonel-General Sergey rudskoy.

“Significant success has been achieved by the Syrian army near Palmyra. The operation was planned and conducted under the leadership of the Russian military advisers,” said rudskoy.
He also said that during the operation to liberate Palmyra was neutralized more than a thousand fighters, 19 tanks, over 40 armoured fighting vehicles.
“In the course of this operation the loss of the rebels amounted to more than a thousand people killed and wounded. Destroyed 19 tanks, 37 armored combat vehicles, 98 pickups mounted with heavy weapons, over one hundred vehicles,” said rudskoy.
Palmyra, one of the richest centers of the ancient civilization, was under the control of the IG in may 2015. Syrian army liberated Palmyra in March 2016 with the support of Russian aviation. In December 2016, the militants once again captured Palmyra and destroyed a part of its monuments. 2 March 2017, it became known that the Syrian army with the support of Russian aviation in the second time took Palmyra, retreating militants did not manage to destroy all ancient buildings.
