On the sanctions policy of Europe towards Russia will largely affect the relations of the Kremlin and the new administration of the United States. However, it is clear that anti-Russian sanctions have not achieved their goals, dealt with European countries, economic damage, said the Minister of foreign Affairs of Hungary Peter Siyarto.

“From the point of view of economy, it is clear that we hurt more than Russia. Where we attacked Russia, it had an impact on us. As if we ourselves in the foot shot” — he said in an interview with RIA Novosti.

According to him, from a political point of view, the restrictions against Russia had to facilitate full compliance with the Minsk agreements on the settlement of the Ukrainian crisis. However, progress in this question is missing for the last three years.

“Then I ask the question — why should we maintain sanctions and not look for exits?”, — said Siyarto.

The Minister expressed hope that sanctions against Russia will be lifted in the future, but at the moment it does not depend on the European Union. In his opinion, US pressure on Europe may be weakened if warmer relations between Washington and Moscow.

Szijjártó added that the Hungarian side is interested in the relationship between Russia and the United States. With such developments in other European countries, he suggested, are bolder to declare the need for a pragmatic approach to the dialogue with Moscow.

“I’m keeping my fingers that the new US administration came to an agreement with the President of Russia. I hope they both find a common language, because it depends a lot on personal relationships,” — said the Minister of foreign Affairs of Hungary.
