Russia has promised to block the UN security Council new sanctions against Syria

Russia will veto a draft resolution of the UN Security Council sanctions against Syria over the alleged use of chemical weapons. About it reports on Friday, February 24, TASS with reference to the Deputy permanent representative to the UN Vladimir Safronkov.

“I very clearly explained its position to partners, saying that if it [the draft resolution] will be submitted for consideration, we will impose the veto on it, and they know about it,” — said the diplomat at the end of a closed-door meeting of the security Council.

The draft resolution, as suggested by Safronov, “anticipates the results of the investigation” which was conducted by experts of the United Nations and the Organization for the prohibition of chemical weapons (OPCW). In addition, according to zampolpreda, it contains no evidence and biased.

In consequence, the diplomat said the pressure to “get a kind of one-sided investigation”. “We have said that the investigation should be impartial, objective, independent. Now this is not” — he said.

Earlier intention to submit to the UN security Council resolution on Syria said the U.S. Ambassador to Nikki Haley. “Now, when there are results, these results do not like. This is ridiculous. How much more Russia will coddle and justify the Syrian regime?”, — leads her words RIA Novosti.

The draft resolution prepared at the end of December 2016, Britain and France. The document envisages the introduction of sanctions against 11 10 Syrians and Syrian organizations and companies allegedly linked to the chemical attacks. In addition, it is proposed to prohibit all countries from Syrian government helicopters, which can be used for attacks with the use of toxic substances.

In August the UN Mission and the Organization for the prohibition of chemical weapons (OPCW) to investigate the use of chemicals for military purposes in Syria were able to identify the perpetrators of attacks in only three of the nine incidents. The experts acknowledged the government forces guilty of two attacks, militants of the terrorist group “Islamic state” (IG, is prohibited in Russia) — one.

Vitaly Churkin, the permanent representative of Russia to the world organization, commenting on these accusations against Damascus, questioned the validity of the information presented in the report on the investigation of cases of use of chemical substances, assuming that it could be fabricated by terrorists.
