Yanukovych said that he has not asked Russian troops to enter Ukraine in 2014

MOSCOW, February 22. /TASS/. The former President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych appealed to Russia with a request to send troops to the Republic. He stated this in an interview with the group of Russian and Ukrainian journalists on the occasion of the third anniversary of the coup in the Ukraine.

“I did not ask to send troops to Ukraine. This is not so,” he said.

Yanukovych added that any letter to the President of Russia Vladimir Putin on this score was not. “This is not a letter, and the statement in the first place. Second, there are laws, — added ex-the President. — I didn’t betray my people, I was trying to protect the people, and to do so in the framework of their powers”.

He explained that the main goal in this was to “stop gangs of illegal immigrants (illegal armed groups — approx. TASS) that are not subordinate to anyone, began to kill people in Donbass”. “That was my goal. It can be emotional, but I was looking for ways to protect for people”, — concluded Yanukovych.
