Shot and killed a wounded Palestinian, Israeli received 1.5 years prison
The military court of Israel sentenced a Sergeant Elora Azariah, who had shot dead an unarmed Palestinian man to 18 months in prison. Reported by the Associated Press.
The prosecution demanded to sentence a soldier to imprisonment for a term of three to five years. Protection of Azariah insisted on his release.
In January, the court ruled that Azaria guilty of manslaughter.
The incident occurred in March 2016. Palestinian soldiers attacked Azariah with a knife. After the assailant was immobilized, an Israeli soldier shot him in the head. At this moment it is captured on video, a Palestinian human rights activist.
This story has caused in Israel a wide resonance, dividing the country into two camps: military condemned the act of Azariah, but many came to the defense of a soldier. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu argued for the pardon of a soldier.
