Most of the residents of Nagorno Karabakh Republic voted in favour of the new Constitution

YEREVAN, 21 Feb — RIA Novosti, Gamlet Matevosyan. Almost 90% of the residents of the unrecognized Nagorno-Karabakh Republic (NKR) voted in favour of the new Constitution, said Tuesday RIA Novosti the NKR Central electoral Commission.

The constitutional referendum in Nagorno Karabakh was held on Monday. The new draft Constitution provides for the transition to a presidential form of government. According to the current Constitution, adopted in 2006, the form of government in NCR — semi-presidential.

“According to preliminary data, on taken place yesterday the constitutional referendum of 103,793 thousands of eligible voters voted 79,428 thousand. The draft of the new Constitution voted of 69.54 thousand people or 87,6% against 7,686 thousand or 9.7%. Invalid recognized 2,202 thousands of newsletter”, — said the representative of the CEC.

The co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk group Igor Popov (Russia), Stefan Visconti (France) and Richard Hoagland (USA) has said it will not accept the results of the referendum on the new draft Constitution of Nagorno Karabakh. The co-chairs stressed that the results of the referendum does not prejudge the final status of Nagorno-Karabakh or the outcome of the current negotiations on the Karabakh settlement. In turn, the Russian foreign Ministry said that the constitutional referendum in Nagorno-Karabakh will not be able to influence the negotiations within the OSCE MG.
