Federica Mogherini and Lavrov
The Minister of foreign Affairs of Russia Sergey Lavrov discussed with high representative of the Union for foreign Affairs Federica Mogherini on the sidelines of the Munich conference on security relations between Russia and the EU, as well as the conflicts in Syria and Libya. This was reported by the press service of the foreign Ministry.
“During the meeting the sides discussed topical issues in Russian-EU relations and the international agenda. Special attention was paid to the situation in the middle East, especially the Syrian issue and the Libyan settlement,” — said the Minister.
In turn, the European external action service said that during the meeting Lavrov and Mogherini also discussed the situation in the East of Ukraine. “Mogherini reaffirmed the strong support of the European Union the full implementation of the Minsk agreements, underlining Russia’s responsibility for it,” — said in a statement.
In addition, the Minister of foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation and the head of European diplomacy exchanged views on Iran’s deal and middle East peace process and discussed the talks on the Syrian conflict in Astana and the upcoming conference on Syria in Geneva.
February 18, Lavrov said that Mogherini made the so-called Freudian slip, saying that the EU “will have to wait until Russia will concede.” As noted by the Russian foreign Minister, in the sentence contains a hint of the authorities of the European Union that Kiev is behaving correctly during the conflict in the Donbass.
The Minsk agreement is the document agreed in February 2015 leaders of Germany, France, Ukraine and Russia in the format “Norman Quartet.” It is aimed at de-escalation of the armed conflict in the South-East of Ukraine.
