Mattis said the lack of conditions for military cooperation with Moscow

The Minister of defence of the USA James Mattis has said that he sees room for cooperation with Russia in the military sphere. On Thursday, February 16, according to Reuters.

“We are in no position now to cooperate on a military level. But our leaders will dialogue and try to find a common language”, — said the head of the Pentagon.

Earlier, on 15 February, Mattis encouraged to engage in dialogue with Russia from a position of strength. “We remain open to opportunities to restore cooperation with Moscow, but at the same time, realistic in their expectations and recommendations of our diplomats to negotiate from a position of strength,” he said in a speech at the meeting of defense Ministers of the countries participating in NATO in Brussels.

In turn, the Minister of defence of Russia Sergey Shoigu said about the futility of this approach. At the same time, Shoigu also reiterated the readiness of his Department to establish relationships with American colleagues.
