Mogherini said about the possible loss of the U.S. as a world leader

High representative of the European Union for foreign Affairs Federica Mogherini concerned about the possible loss of the US’s leading role in the world. She stated this in an interview with European Alliance of leading periodicals (LENA) after a trip to Washington.

“I’ve never seen the United States as polarized, divided and conflict-Laden as it is now. Anyone who wants to play the role of a world leader, needs to be internally strong, confident and cohesive,” said Mogherini, noting that the problems that arose in the United States, may become a “destabilizing factor for the world.”

As regards the relations of States and the European Union, Mogherini expects “the transition to a new stage”. “We will carefully discuss the issue after question to see where we have common ground. There is no drama,” — said Mogherini. However, she noted that in the future will probably be more issues on which Washington and Brussels will occupy different positions.

This week Europe will visit several senior officials of the United States. Wednesday, February 15, in Brussels a two-day meeting of defense Ministers of the NATO countries, which for the first time participate new Pentagon chief James Mattis. On Thursday, the head of the US state Department Rex Tillerson will attend a meeting of foreign Ministers of “Big twenty” in Bonn and on Friday, Vice-President Mike Pence will arrive at the Munich security conference.
