Leading Russian universities have cut funding for the next three years
The government almost a third have reduced the financing of leading Russian universities. The amount of funding available will be reduced in the current year, as well as in 2018 and 2019.
Funding of the leading universities of Russia in the years 2017-2019 will be reduced by 12 billion rubles. the Relevant government resolution signed by Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev on February 10.

About the upcoming reduction of subsidies for universities of the program “5-100” in mid-January, the newspaper “Izvestia”. According to sources, the decision was taken at the end of December 2016 at a meeting with Deputy Prime Minister for social Affairs Olga Golodets. The Ministry of education, according to the newspaper, has already sent to the Ministry of Finance proposal of the Association “Global universities” about the need to provide universities with additional funds to restore the funding.
Earlier also it became known that the government would cut spending on the program of development of scientific-technological complex of 25 billion rubles relative to the numbers laid down at this period in the Federal target program of development of scientific-technological complex until 2020.

The Ministry of education launched in 2013, the project “5-100” on the promotion of the best national universities in the top hundred universities in the world by 2020. The program involves 21 Russian universities, including the Higher school of Economics, Russian peoples ‘ friendship University and Moscow Institute of physics and technology.
