The actions of NATO near the Russian borders are provocative and destabilizing. This was stated by Minister of foreign Affairs of Russia Sergey Lavrov.

“Carried out by the Alliance’s actions in areas adjacent to Russian borders regions, of course, are provocative and destabilizing. It mentioned the deployment of additional military contingents of the bloc in Poland and the Baltic States”, — said Lavrov in an interview to the newspaper “Izvestia”.

According to him, already there have been discussions about the possibility of “the same presence of allies in other countries of Eastern Europe, particularly in Bulgaria and Romania”.

“And the consistent implementation of individual member countries to block national plans to modernise the armed forces and the construction of new military infrastructure. And substantial growth in the scale and the number of NATO exercises near our borders,” — said the Minister.

Lavrov also noted that “of particular concern is the ongoing construction of the US missile defense in Europe,” which, according to the foreign Ministry, is “the true anti-Russian orientation”.

Earlier, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said that in February 2017, the NATO defense Ministers will approve measures to strengthen presence in the Black sea region.

In the foreign Ministry noted that Romania after the appearance on its territory of elements of U.S. missile defense has become a clear threat to Russia’s security.
